Wendy was just such an amazing, 'together' person. So confident, she could do anything (travel, windsurfing, tennis, photography, hold her own with anyone) but always generous with it, genuinely interested in people - whenever she talked to you, she really talked to you, fully concentrating and not being distracted. She gave all her attention and held everyone equal. In my self-conscious, hesitant, awkward early university days she inspired so much awe and was always so much at ease with herself , everyone and everything. Zooming around the campus in her pink zip-up Fiat, she seemed very sophisticated but never aloof - always fun, positive, smiling and enthusiastic. I remember her most vividly at Hull wearing her shorts (never a skirt) when playing hockey, with her brown hair tied up in a pony tail, normally with sun-kissed skin from Sardinia. In Sardinia itself, she wore just bikini bottoms most of the time, so slim, so fit, and throwing on a T-shirt to go off wind-surfing. A kind of golden girl...
