Sharne Van der Burgh, July 2012

Wendy created me a beautiful photo album with a red silk cover after my 40th birthday party, so thoughtful since my dress was red. As was always her way – to consider the smallest detail to make things special. She bought me a wonderful wooden box full of crystals and stones that were heart shaped and had different special properties. I’ve added to the collection since then and it sits proudly on my window sill - I look at it every day. We were looking for photos of our trip to Vienna with Wendy and Steve because we had a super weekend there with them. We had the good fortune to go to a spectacular celebration concert of the Opera House. We then sat down to a meal after the concert at 1.30am, by which time we were all “past it”, but it was a fun evening. The next day we took a horse drawn carriage drive around Vienna which was lovely and Wendy took some spectacular pictures – one of which I still have on the “thank you” card Wendy created after the event with one of her photographs. Wendy was always a generous and fabulous hostess – our paths seemed to cross a lot during our Ford days. Steve and Wendy left Michigan just as we arrived – it wasn’t personal – just bad timing!! But as usual she included us in the circle of their tennis friends while we were over looking for a house – it was lovely of her to think of us when she was packing up to go to California, but so typical. Then when Steve moved to Mazda I stayed a number of times with them overnight in their lovely home in Germany– it was always a special evening of home cooked food and lots of wine. Really interesting conversations about the afterlife, beliefs, values and energy – Wendy was open to everything and anything and it was great to have conversations with her. I personally think this site is very brave of Steve to create – it will bring up so many memories again for him, which I hope will be happy and healing. I must admit, I shed a tear when I saw the photo I've added to the site because I’m the same age now as Wendy was when she passed away, and seeing her face in the photo made her feel like she is still with us. My personal belief is that she is, just in a different form of energy – not physical – but that’s just my personal view. Thank you Steve for this opportunity to celebrate your wonderful wife Wendy, and for allowing us into your private world to celebrate her life again – so generous of you to consider including us. Here’s to you Wendy – a life well lived and lessons for us all in giving, loving, caring and being positive in all that we do and say.
