From Christine Owen, August 2012

Wendy inspired me - as she did everyone who knew her. Her courage, cheerfulness and optimism in the face of her devastating illness, and her determination to live life to the full despite it, was truly heroic. She was always there to give comfort and sensible advice to her friends and family when needed: even now, faced with a dilemma, I always ask myself "What would Wendy do?". The photo I've added to the Gallery was taken on a holiday trip along the Californian coast in Spring 2000. Wendy had planned and booked everything, from B&Bs to visits to the best attractions along the route, in her usual super-efficient way, and all went without a hitch. We had a great holiday and afterwards she presented us with a lovely album of photos as a memento - as she always did after every holiday we had with them. I treasure those albums - from Detroit, Chicago, Palm Springs, Cologne and from the vacations she had with us in England. Some of my best memories of Wendy are when I was with her in her garden - her love of wild birds, growing things, and dislike of the squirrels who raided the bird feeders, calling for Steve to grease the pole supporting the feeders to prevent them climbing up (it only worked for a short while!). Her legacy lives on in the memories of all who loved her.
